PERSPEX® acrylic used to create high tech bio-spheres for CABI
CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International) commissioned PERSPEX® acrylic fabricators Inplas Fabrications to create a series of bioscience test cages using PERSPEX® clear cast acrylic sheet.
The cages or bio-spheres create a controlled environment in which the scientists at CABI can perform experiments to develop ways to control weeds which have become overly invasive in the UK and overseas.
Inplas created a number of cage types specifically designed to meet the different testing requirements of the scientists at CABI.
For working with insects, Inplas designed a box with secure sleeve attachments; for work with pathogens, a simple door was fitted and to allow for taller plants and plant growth, they designed an extender box to slot beneath the existing boxes.
PERSPEX® clear cast acrylic sheet in three thicknesses, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm was used to create the bio-spheres which are currently in use at the CABI quarantine testing centre.
