Time to Shine
State of the art manufacturing combined with a luxurious material palette
Tempus is a unique state of the art, illuminated timepiece by artist and designer Ben Rousseau, inspired by science fiction films and luxury sports car instruments.
Instead of rotating hands, the futuristic clock faces operate with digital LEDs that illuminate three surrounding rings in sequence, the outer with 12 segments for the hours, the middle with 60 segments for the minutes, and the inner 60 for the seconds.
Rousseau uses Perspex® S-Lux for each of the illuminated segments within the futuristic clock face which operates with digital LEDs. With patented technology and a special textured surface, Perspex® S-Lux offers optimum performance in terms of even light distribution and superb brightness to each of the small individual segments.
Launching the collection with a classic circular formation at 900mm diameter, Tempus is offered as both a wall hung option and floor standing option in a broad range of luxury materials, with customisable light patterns and colours, perfect for any modern interior.
Versions of Tempus look incredible where the main chassis is made from Perspex® acrylic, for which Rousseau has previously created versions of the timepiece using various Perspex® products including Perspex® Solid Colours, Perspex® Pearlescent and Perspex® Mirror, which all give Tempus a very different look each time. Alternatively there is a wide range of finishes in glass and metal, with an almost infinite array of materials for special commissions such as carbon fibre, exotic timber and leather.
Since launching at 100% Design 2016, customers have been lining up for their very own unique piece of kinetic art which can be fully customisable to suit a location or environment, including Red Bull, Gumball 3000 and the swanky Sketch London restaurant.
Looking to the future Rousseau explains, “The possibilities for Tempus are unlimited. I will continue to explore more exotic materials but in the nature of the assembly and properties of Perspex® acrylic, there will always be Perspex® acrylic elements in every Tempus I produce.”
“I will look to expand the range with many formations of light patterns and time paths, and housing them in more and more beautiful ways such as free standing sculptures, large pieces of floor standing furniture and varying scales of projects.”
